Really mis Curly. Had the pleasure to meet him at Scotty's 25th Steel Show. At that time he said he didn't own a guitar. A short time later he passed away. RIP Curly !

The C6th players should enjoy the 2nd song in this clip. I'm surprised they let him get as wild as he sometimes did.Since it was a national TV show. But the Wilburn's knew good steel guitar playing when they heard it. And enjoyed it. Wish that were true today. $:\$

Look at the clip I posted above. Notice at the start of the break on Making Plans, Curly gets almost five seconds worth of notes out of one pluck of the right hand. Talk about sustain!!! I wish I could do this.... no, I wish a lot more players could do this because it's so tasteful.

Chalker is a one of a kind. Every bit unique and special as Emmons, Green and all those that have received proper accolades while they were still amongst us.
I'll listen to Chalker's E9th playing any time.

In my books, Curly Chalker is among the handful of our heroes.

Yes, and that run up the neck includes a reverse bar slant! Like a lot of his contemporaries, Curley started out on non-pedal steel and he was a master of bar techniques, slants, hammer-ons, etc. He was also left-handed which probably helped his bar technique.

Paul, Bobby Garrett was a killer player on C6th. Good as they come. Listen to his recording of "Rose City Chimes" recorded at Dewey Groom's Longhorn Ballroom and you will see what I mean. Jody.

Jody; I met Bobby in the mid-60s when he was with Jim Reeves. And again in Dallas one summer when we shared some gigs. Yes he was a talent on C6th which was why I was trying to get BB's opinion as well.
