Experimental music band to perform in L.A. 9/29

Post by Mike Perlowin RIP »

The experimental music I'm playing in, The Echo Park Free Music Ensemble, will perform at Club Firecracker in Chinatown, near downtowm L.A. on Friday September 29 at approxmately 10 PM.

Club firecracker is held at the quan bro's Grandstar bar/restaurant in Chinatown,(943 Sun Mun Wy.) in a courtyard between Broadway, Hill, College, and Bernard St.

The music itself can best be described as an attempt at fusing R&B rhythyms with scales and melodic patters used in Indian ragas. The instrumentation is Guitar, Bass, Drums, Steel, Vibes and Keyboards. Because the vibes are acoustic, we keep the volume down low so as to not drown them out. The vibes player and I are the lead players, soloing over the rhythmic grooves layed down by the others. We do not play anything even remotely resembling country music.

Please E-mail me for directions and a map.

My son just performed at Woodstockhausen. It blended electronic music and video artforms. He is majoring in music with a specialty in Electro-acoustic music. The event happens once a year at a residence in the Santa Cruz Mountains in No. Calif. Some of the performers have pioneered software of the type that drives EMU sound modules and synths etc. I'm sure pix are on the internet. I was shown live by internet.

I certainly enjoyed the music this ensemble played at a concert in L.A. a couple of months ago. As Mike noted, their volume is low enough to permit the vibes to come through quite nicely. The combination of pedal steel and vibes is really cool. I encourage all local Forumites to catch these guys while you still can, and don't be late!

Just a reminder that the gig is this Friday. I hope to see some of your So California players there.
