Luke Gordon

Post by Ric Nelson »

Luke Gordon, recording artist from the 1950s-1980s, is home recoving from some surgery. He said he would love to hear from any of the old crowd, so if you'd like to send card, here's where:

Luke Gordon
2619 Harvey Road
Huntington, WV 25704

For those of you who don't know of him, he was based and recorded in the Washington, D.C area and was backed on some sessions by such musicans as Buzz Busby (mandolin), John Duffy (Dobro), yes a young John Duffy, and the Bluegrass Champs (Scott, Jimmy and Donna Stoneman with Lew Huston, dobro).

PSG players on his sessions included Don West and Johnny "Pancake" Norris.

One single, "Dark Hollow", was in the "top ten" in December, 1958. It was a re-recorded, this time on Blueridge. He had a few other singles on the charts.

He last recorded in 1984.

He was a regular on Connie B. Gay's "Town and Country Jamboree", Don Owens' TV Jamboree (WTTG, Washington 1957-1960) and was frequenty on the WRVA Barn Dance (Richmond, Va), the WWVA Jamboree (Wheeling) and the Opry as well.

Some of his original recordings will soon be available on CD as part of the Sunset Park and New River Ranch material to be released later this year.

For those of you who are too polite at ask, I was in my late teens when I backed him on the dobro (1956-1959).

Pleass take the time to send a card.
