More Hits For Your Steel Guitar Web Page!

Post by b0b »

I've always liked the idea of a WebRing. A WebRing is a group of sites that share a common interest. From each site a web surfer can easily jump to the next site in the ring.

I've started a WebRing called the Ring of Steel. You can see the HTML link block for the Ring of Steel at the bottom of the Forum home page at http://www.b0b.com/forum .

If you have a steel guitar web site and you would like to join the ring, fill out the form at steelguitarmusic.com/ring. The central WebRing system at webring.org will email you a custom version of the HTML code block to paste into your homepage.

After you've pasted the code, email me ( quasar@b0b.com ) and I'll verify that the code works correctly and activate your site in the ring. I expect that the whole process will usually take about a day or two, because I'm not sitting at the computer 24 hours a day. Image

I think that this is a good idea - a real community builder. People won't have to go back and forth to a central "links" page all the time just to check out lots of steel guitar sites. They can easily surf from one to the next, to the next, to the next. Fun for everyone, more hits for you. Image

This is the first web ring I've felt like I could join. An excellent idea, b0b.

Done. Glad to join in. Since I created my page for no other reason than to contribute something to someone, the hit count has been nothing short of astonishing. Really gratifying. Now if I could only rack up some Green Stamps or something with the anticipated increase this ring will bring, why I bet I could get that recliner I've been eyeballing in the catalog! Or maybe some x-ray specs.

It's been pointed out to me that the HTML fragment is a bit goofy. Apparently the WebRing software has a hard time with equals signs. I've replaced them with = tokens, which produce an equals sign.

For the correct appearance, compare your page to the appearance at the bottom of the www.b0b.com/forum page. There should be 5 equals signs after the <big> tag, and another 5 before the </big> tag.

I used the equals sign and parentheses as a way to get a "graphic identity look" without the download expense of a real graphic. Adding the code to your homepage should not have a noticable effect on download speed.

WebRing.org was bought by Yahoo. I'm sort of hoping that sites in the Ring of Steel will also find their way into Yahoo's database. More hits! Image

Don't forget to send me an email after you've added the HTML fragment to your home page.

8 sites now and growing fast! I'll be away from the computer all day today. I'll catch up on any new additions on Wednesday.

Great idea. Sent in the Real Audio and ICQ list sites. They must have used you for the prototype of the Ever Ready bunny. You never seem to run down!!!!!

You can see the HTML fragment that defines the Ring of Steel at the very bottom of this page. I've added target="_blank" to the Ring of Steel links when they're in a Forum footer so that the user doesn't lose the Forum session.

If what I just said makes no sense to you, ignore it! Image
