"out there in the shadows..."
Hey Marcel! Had to think for a moment..Joe McGuffee was one of the guys that I met in Nashville(Madison)at Duane Marrs' shop. At the time he was working for Dolly Parton and after that period I didn't really run across him and didn't even know that he worked with Vince in the "early days" even though I had worked with his drummer, Martin Parker. Incidentally, there are many players in his category, that is, great players that don't get a lot of press that are exceptionally great players that have been part of the "scene".One in particular comes to mind...Gary Carter, a "monster" picker, a nice guy and humble as they come. A lot of players here on the forum are awesome pickers that haven't ever been a "Nashville" player(an environment that poses quite a challenge and competition that can benefit a player immensely).Glad that there are a lot of us guys of varied backgrounds around here on the Forum...what a great resource! Respectfully submitted, RK

What a great video. Joe McGuffey was Dolly Parton's steel player in the 70's. He is listed on her "Heartbreaker" album as the steel player. He must have played steel for Vince Gill before John Hughey and was first to do "Look at us" with him. John Hughey is listed as the player on Vince's "Pocket full of gold" album.

Joe Mcguffy
Joe is a friend of mine
and he is the most humble cat you ever met.
He quit playing 8 or 9 years ago .
He does real estate here around Branson Mo.
He wont sell his guitar.
It just sits in the closet
last we talked.
