Apparently they are still willing to take money online on their website.
A banjo, like a pet monkey, seems like a good idea at first.

I bought them both used but have always been able to get parts. I have literally owned every single Mullen model. All of them were wonderful guitars. I would highly recommend buying a used one. And just kiss your deposits goodbye.

I will say that my two used G2’s are the finest pedal steels I’ve ever owned.
Having said that about Mullen’s past quality being so good, would you hesitate to buy a used Herby (or other 15-20 yr. old Mullen) vs a more recent G2, assuming each are at their “correct” valuation for their condition/mileage?

I have owned Pre-Rp’s, RP’s, Discovery’s and G2’s. All of them were great.

I ordered a Discovery in mid January. I was told should be by May. I got it Sept 11.
I realized I should have ordered a rkl 1/2 stop (the feel for that worked on my GFI, not so much on this one).
Put in the order 9/14. Supposedly in stock, per the website. Nothing so far. I called 9/29, voicemail is full, emailed, got this in reply --

We are changing some things up in the office, so please bear with us as we navigate new systems.
Please note that emails may take up to 2 business days to get a response, and phone calls may go to voicemail. Please leave us a message and we'll get back to you ASAP!!

I'll call again tomorrow, but so far, no one is answering the phone or replying to an email from a week ago, on a sale I did on their website. Paypal already paid for it.

I love the steel, it plays and sounds great, really enjoying it. However, knowing what I know now, not so sure I would have gone this way. It may just be a temporary glitch, small company, illness, yada yada. I guess we'll see.

Good luck to all who have placed an order. To the rest, I wouldn't. My opinion, only.

Yes, Del has passed away. We're just catching that news here now - https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=411367. I think it matters. At the least, I think it helps explain why they have been slow to get orders out. I'm sorry, but some things take precedence over 'business as usual'. This is a small, closely held company. Del was their founder and inspiration.

Personally, if I had an order in with Mullen, I'd be inclined to wait it out to see what happens. On the other hand, I'll probably wait until things settle down and give them a chance to catch their breath before I make that parts order I had planned. I wish them the very best, and hope they can successfully emerge from this tough period.

I just got a reply to my email, Shaun is still recovering from a medical procedure.
With Del passing, I imagine they will be closed for a while.
Hopefully, they can come back. I really, really like my new Mullen, and I hope they can stay in business.

With Del's passing the company has a huge hurdle to get past, with an order backlog months long and only one builder in house. Hopefully Sean can get things rolling again and at least fill the orders with deposits already received.

My suggestion: if you want a Mullen, buy a used one now. Even if you have a deposit with Mullen. If the best possible outcome happens and you get your new Mullen, you can always sell the used one.

Mullen are great guitars and like anything else: if supply goes down, prices will go up. At this point, I will never sell my two Mullen G2’s. I’ve already noticed that most, if not all of the used Mullen for sale on the forum have been sold in the past few days.

Yes, I hate to say, but Del has indeed passed away. Losing my brother Mike was devastating to our family and our business. Now losing Del is another devastating loss for us. My brother Shaun has been dealing with serious health issues since the beginning of this year. Our “polisher” Nick is a very capable, loyal, and hardworking employee, so please no negative comments about or staff. Correspondence is slower as we lost our office manager recently. Yes we are behind for these reasons and others. We are getting on track, but unfortunately with Del’s passing, we are focusing on that at the moment. Shaun is working hard to fulfill all orders. Email is the best way to reach us. We will be pausing on all NEW orders, so that we can focus on existing orders. I apologize to all affected by our series of unfortunate circumstances over the past year. We are grateful to those sticking with us and apologize that it’s been a long wait. We are doing what we can. Thank you.

How brave and strong you are to address the situation at this time of devastating loss. Trust that we are all saddened and sympathetic by and for your situation and will hopefully be patient and understanding of your issues.

Certainly time to mourn and deal with all things concerned with Del's passing is in order and freely acknowledged.

My deepest condolences to you and may you have peace, strength, and comfort enough to see you through Dana.

My condolences to the Mullen Family and Crew. The stories and tributes are flowing in for Del.
I’ve got an SD12 G2 on order and I plan on being patient. I’ll be praying for all involved.

Dana, you have my deepest sympathies and my utmost thanks to you and your entire family for creating a lasting legacy in the field of Pedal Steel. I'm honored to own two Mullen, which I will never part with. Every morning I come down and sit behind my Mullen G2 D10 and go to work. Learning, creating, playing for the fun of it. And I'm immediately whisked away to place that has no age. The pedals and levers that move like butter, better by far, then any other guitar I've owned. And then I move to my OTHER G2 D10, which has its own mojo and copedent. How blessed am I.

Folks: I would highly suggest buying used if you can't buy new. I bought and sold a lot of used ones and didn't find a bad one yet. Everyone sounded great, with its own mojo. You won't find a better steel. And my guess is their value will only increase with time.

I once asked a steel guitar tech, what is the best pedal steel ever made. He said, the original Zumsteels were the best. But Mullen were the best being made today. After this hiccup, may they have many more years of being the best pedal steels ever made, right here in America.

They updated their voicemail greeting to say that they are out of the office until November 3rd. It is a different voice from the last greeting, so I think someone new is stepping in to get the wheels turning again. Seems like the clouds are parting.
