no sound on dvd

I have been sent 2 different dvds and can;t get the sound to work, they are home made dvds...I have Windiws Vista.. premium Home...this is on the windows player....11

David, do you know for certain that there is audio on the DVD's. If someone made them and didn't make them correctly the audio may not have been recorded.

Can you take them to a different PC and try them?

I suspect the DVDs.

Try them on another DVD player.

Do other DVDs work on your Vista system?

they play just fine in my Home DVD player...

Does audio CD's play OK? and/or a different DVD?

There is a separate volume control for the CD/DVD audio in your volume control panel - check that to make sure it's not muted or that the volume control slider is not in the down (0ff) position.

If audio CD's play OK and there is nothing wrong with the volume control panel, uninstall the DVD drive in the Windows Device Manager, then restart Vista and it will detect and reinstall the drive. That seems to fix a lot of flakey problems.

Vista sets it's sound to "digital out" by default.

Goto control panel -> hardware & sound -> sound.

At least two things shoul appear: "Speakers" and "Digital Audio Interface."

Select "Speakers" and click "set to default."

Not really sure, went to sound in control panel.. and not really sure what I did , and now it works,
but I can tell yuo how to build a fire place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
