Hello all,

I've decided to take on this amazing instrument and all of the funny questions that come with it ("You have to use your KNEES?"). I've been lurking through the forum for a few weeks, and must say that I've never been more inspired by anything on the internet. Seriously. You steelers seem to have a comraderie that no other instrumentalists do.

My background:

I'm a native Minnesotan, moved to Eau Claire, Wisconsin for college in 1995, where I started Nine Below Zero, a successful little Chicago-style blues band. We did some festivals and got the chance to play with some of the best blues musicians around. In 2000, I got sick of the cold and move to Austin, Texas. I'm currently very busy with Jean Pierre and the Zydeco Angels (the only REAL Zydeco band in Austin), The Pat Mears Band, and The Jacks (a surf-rock project).

For a few years, I've been 'faking' steel guitar lines on the guitar. This is like trying to fake a Hammond organ on a Casio. So, the time has come...

I've got a bead on a couple of good-looking steels (thanks to this forum).

Well, I'm sure I'll have many questions for you in the coming months. I'll do my best to be sure that my concerns have not already been addressed on the forum before asking away.

Thank you for being here,

Tony LaCroix

Tony, welcome to the forum...You have several of the best 'steelers' in the state right in your area; Herb Steiner and Rickie Davis come to mind immediately....Catch hold of these guys, they're super and you can understand them too! Image
