Curtis Potter w/ Jim Loessberg on Steel&Producer
Ok I just listened through the NEW Curtis Potter CD called "Walking on New Grass"; Produced and played his '65 Wrap-around Emmons and played Drums by our very own Jim Loessberg..........and OH MY GOSH......this is one of the best sounding Classic Country projects of Today.
Curtis has always sang is butt off and did it yet again.....but the production of this CD is priceless.....and I've known Jim Loessberg for quite a while and his ear for purity is the best I've heard. Loessberg's Steel Playing is just as sweet as the production of this Classic. Yes Lloyd Green is my Favorite and I'm heavily influenced by Lloyd and Weldon and Jimmy Day; but I'm gunna have to say(cause I go listen to Jim play once a week)> Jim Loessberg is one of my all time favorite steel players....I can listen to him play alll daaay long.
This is a must buy....and I rarely promote something other than my own business...ha..but TWO THUMBS UP on this one....WOW>
Get it Here> http://www.startexrecords.com/ and get it NOW.......shoot my blood is still pumping....that STeel player is something else...and wait till you see who the other musicians are....and you won't belive who the Bass player is???ha....

Hi Ricky,
All I can say is, You are right.
How about the kickoff that Randy Reinhard
and Bobby Flores did on Shenandoah?
That alone is worth the price of the C-D.
Also I got to hear Jim the other night in
Bandera with Justin Trevino and I too am a
fan.
Also let me just say that Justin Trevino is
turning out country music in his studio that
will be treasured by true country fans forever.
I'm coming to hear you as soon as it is possible Ricky.
Love and deepest respect for all of you.

YES, to everthing Ricky and Dickey said. This CD is awesome. I have not heard Curtis sound this good since "Here Comes Curtis Potter". Very well produced and Loessberg plays as well as I have ever heard him, on steel and drums, and Bobby Flores is also awesome on fiddle.
If you like Country all the way you will love this CD.

My first acquaintance with Curtis Potter was with Billy Gray at the Golden Nuggett in Los Vegas in 1963...and he keeps getting better! www.genejones.com

I bought my copy from Jim the other day and it is a great record that I will treasure alongside my Texas Dancehall Music album and the live CD from a couple of years ago.
Jim Loessburg is definitely one of my all time favorites and I'm lucky enough to have a fiance' who not only agrees with me but also lives 3 blocks away from where we can go hear him play with Justin Trevino and Levi Mullen in the same week.
Those shows are rapidly becoming "THE" place to be for Country Music in Austin because it seems like every week you also get to hear the cream of the crop of Austin's players come out to hang around and sit in. It really is a special thing to behold.

Ricky and Dicky and everybody else, y'all are soooo right! This is a great record! Jim Loessburg has been a hero of mine for as long as I have been in Texas. He continues to just blow me away. I heard some of his Ray Price course at a friend's the other day. Very nice! I gotta have it to learn the right way to do all that stuff....Ricky, they were playing the Bill Kirchen/Linda Lay album during dinner tonite at the AllGood cafe in Dallas. Brilliant work, my friend. Your solo on "Streets of Baltimore" made me forget to chew my salmon...Started drooling like Homer
If we get to town in time tomorrow I'll come harrass you and Redd...
[This message was edited by Tommy Detamore on 04 April 2003 at 06:39 PM.]

Agree with all comments about Jim Loessberg's playing and a fine fellow to boot. I spent two hours or better listening to Jim, Levi, John & a drummer who's name I can't remember on the 26th of March at Ginny's in Austin and it was a treat. I have been to Ginny's three times in the last year and heard two great steelers. Jim twice and Ricky once. Actually both twice because Jim let Ricky play one of his sets. Jim also let me embarrass myself by allowing me to play a set in a real Texas honky-tonk. I had a really good time. Thanks to the Jim and the guys for that.
If you want to hear real country music in Austin make it to Ginny's Little Longhorn Saloon.
We all need Jim's little 25 song course on the right way to play those Price songs. Sure would have saved a lot of hair and nail biting over the last 30 years.

To answer Johnny's question:
Ginny's Little Longhorn is on the west side of Burnet Rd. N of a street called North Loop and South of Shoalmont. The main thoroughfare to the North is 2222 and you can exit on to that off of either i-35 or Mopac Expressway.
It's a stand alone white building whith orange trim. Here's the weekly linep:
Monday 9:00: Redd Volkaert and BIlly Dee (with Ricky Davis?)
Tuesday 9:00: Alternating between Justin Trevino (with Jim Loessburg and Levi Mullen) and Roger Wallace (solo)
Wednesday 9:00: Levi Mullen also w/ Jim Loessburg
Thursday 9:00: Dale Watson
Friday and Saturday 9:00: Various Bands some better than others
Sunday 4:00: C.S.S. with Dale Watson
That oughta hold you for a while.

I just ran across this post. Thank you very much to all who wrote such kind words!
All the credit for Curtis' CD goes to the great musicians who played on it, Justin Trevino, who engineered it and, of course, Curtis for being the great singer he is.
Thanks to everyone who bought a copy. Your support is helping to keep traditional Country music alive.
Thanks, too, to everyone who comes to our shows and thanks to Ginny, Sharon and the staff at the Little Longhorn for providing a home for real Country music!
Best wishes,
Jim
