Bill Stafford's CD'S

Post by oj hicks »

I just ordered two CD's from Bill Stafford; his "Going Home" CD and his "Steels Across The Sea." The thing that perked my interest was a thread in Steel Players about 14 string guitars, and some very complimentary things there about Bill (by such authorities as Carl Dixon and others). I had never heard him, but after reading this thread I ordered these two CD's. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! All the compliments paid him are due. He is a very smooth picker, gets great chords, and he is his own man. Bill, thanks for being yourself and playing some very beautiful and original music.

On the "Going Home" CD he does it solo! It is good enough that it was chosen for a movie sound-track theme. His second CD, "Steels Across The Sea," while featuring Bill, he also has Fuzzy picking on several tracks, and also Scotty. I had heard Scotty play his original Rick Frypan, but never the pedal steel. Scotty does not get enough press for his playing prowess either. Neither does Fuzzy. Both are excellent pickers! So I can heartily recommend Bill's CD's...first for his own originality and beautiful, smooth playing, and for the surprise guests on his second Cd.

Bill, keep us apprised of any new releases.

You are right on with your assessment of Bill's playing. I have both those CDS and he richly deserves his title of "Mr. Smooth".
If you don't have these CDs, you need to pick one up. And I'll bet he will have them in Dallas!

Thanks very much folks. But you must know that I am still in the library trying to figure out all Ed Packard has been saying.
And yes, I will have just a few of those at my booth, and don't you guys forget that Billy Easton will be sharing my booth and will have his latest CD there also. Looking forward to meeting a lot of new friends. And don't forget again that John Heinrich will be in our booth also and he will have his great CD. John and Billy's CDs are a must have for serious steel guitar music collectors. Three birds with one stone! What a deal!

Thanks again for the nice words.

Hey Mr Bill, ..It looks like I will make the Texas show; Since I will be driving, I will bring some toys too. That "evolution" blurb might be the rough outline for a book if I get "unlazy"; as it is, it is my way of working up what I want on my next PSG, ..have most of it now, so the rest will be mechanics and physical structure.

The bars may rise from the ashes, ..the test pieces for the updated processes look good. Coal black and paper white this time.

Leo may come to Texas also.

What say you do a Gospel album next, ..similar to the Going Home album?

Hi Mr. Ed:
Will be glad to see you and you can display anything you have at the booth with Billy Easton, John Heinrich and myself. Four birds with one stone as the ole saying goes. (Much better than two with---).
OK, will start thinking about your suggestion. Give me some ideas while we converse over that good food across the street.
Looking forward to this show very much. Supposed to be on the program sometimes Friday evening. Will arrive sometimes Thursday if all goes well. Wish you could be there Al. See you in Grand Rapids anyway.,,

Bill is one collosal steel guitarist. I had the greatest pleasure to meet him a number of years ago near Chicago at the Joliet Convention and what a memorable experience I had playing backup rhythm during Bill's performances! Moreso, we have become the best of friends which means so much to me. Bill honored me by asking me to write the liner notes for his GOING HOME cd. BTW, he tells some of the funniest jokes and stories I have ever heard!
