Great playing by Buddy Emmons on "Miles of Texas

Post by Dave Magram »

For anyone who is a big fan of Buddy Emmons, I highly recommend a fairly recent (about 2 years ago), little-known CD called "Miles of Texas", by Annie B.
Annie B is an excellent singer and her choice of material is outstanding, from hot Western Swing to torch songs and ballads. Every cut is consistently well-done and highly listenable.
Tommy White plays great on one cut ("In and Out of Love"), and all the rest are played by Buddy. Buddy plays some wild solos, speed-picking, and heart-rending fills and solos. There is a lot of steel guitar on the CD. The rest of the musicians (including Glen Duncan on fiddle) are outstanding, and the production is excellent.
There are a number of highly favorable reviews on Annie B's website, along with a sample track. I've nearly worn out my copy. (Do CDs wear out?)
The CD is available from Annie B. You can order it over the Web at: http://www.anniebmusic.com/

Has anyone else heard this gem?

I offered the Annie B CD as a special to members of the site mailing list prior to the steel convention in St. Louis.

Annie B is a real singer. In the same vein as Connie Smith or Jean Shepard.

And yes, Buddy did play some mighty cool stuff!

Hi Herb,
Of course I remember you- you are so unforgettable a character that I couldn't do otherwise.
(For any of you who don't know, before Herb joined Linda Ronstadt's Stone Poneys on pedal steel, he was a very hot bluegrass mandolin player.)

I'll write you personally to catch up.

By the way, have you heard the Annie B CD?
If so, what did you think of it?

Dave
