Steve is one of my favorite pickers. What's he doing these days?

I too enjoy Steve's playing a great deal. It's been a few years now, but I recall seeing his name on some production credits on a few discs (pardon my vagueness). And, I recall seeing a credit or two with Steve on a Radney Foster release from a few years ago too. The stuff that he had done with Emmy Lou was terrific.

You da man Al. I was thinking Steve had been with the Hot Band. He really shines on Radney's Foster's "Del Rio, TX 1959" CD which Steve also produced. He used a Zum, Fender 400 and a Ricky lap steel. I want to hear more of him! Not to be left out, Lee Roy Parnell did some slide on one cut.

Steve is now the head of A&R at Vanguard records in Nashville.

I was lucky enough to tour Europe with Steve back in '88 - what a great guy, and what a fine player!

He was with Emmy's 'Hot Band' and I was with David Allan Coe - he had way more fun than I did....

Steve also played steel with Terry McBride & The Ride. He was seen in their video for "Every Step Of The Way", playing a Zumsteel D-10. He produced some of McBride & The Ride's records. Brett Day, Emmons S-10

Brett, I was just sure that Steve had worked with McBride & The Ride, thanks for reminding me. Scotty has asked, who would you like to see at the ISGC, Steve's got my vote!

David, it sure was!

Emmy and the band (also with Frank Reckard) were impeccable, and I watched them every night.

David was, to put it mildly, unpredictable and, if we wanted his guitar to be in tune, we'd better do it ourselves before the 'set'! The promoter had , on DAC's previous European tour, 'economised' on the band he'd booked for him - word had it that David had 'let them go' halfway through a song! He appeared to be happy with us, however, but we had no clue what he'd do next - he'd just launch into something, totally 'segue', and leaving no time for any audience response; when compared to the rest of the show, our part was unavoidably sloppy!

Also on the show were 'Newgrass Revival' (Bela Fleck, Pat Flynn, John Cowan and Sam Bush - they were wonderful!) as well as the Bellamy Brothers and Tanya Tucker.

Heading up this disparate bunch was none other than Jerry Lee Lewis - and we thought WE had a tough job backing David! He was like a time-bomb waiting to explode, and his young drummer just lived on his nerves watching Jerry Lee's left hand, trying to guess what would come next! (Mr Lewis had just recovered from stomach surgery, and so limited his intake to a bottle of bourbon a day....) On his 'good days', though, he was great!

Great memories - including Emmy's guitar 'tech', the 'Masked Man of Mystery', Maple Brine, and Steve Fishell, who got tee-shirts made up for the 'Hurry Up And Wait Tour - 1988'.

We all shared the 'bill' with Ray Charles in Bourges, France, too - that WAS special.....

David, I'd love to see Buddy Emmons, Paul Franklin, and Steve Fishel in St. Louis. I remember in McBride & The Ride's video, "Every Step Of The Way," he was playing his Zumsteel. I loved the Zumsteel he played. I remember whenever I'd hear a certain song by McBride & The Ride with steel in it, I knew it was a Zumsteel because of its tone. Brett Day, Emmons S-10

Roger, your T-shirt should read.."I survived the DAC tour of '88". What a line-up!

Brett, do whatever it takes to make that journey, it's well worth it. Here's hoping that we get our wish.
