What tunes has your band added recently?
We've added a few songs to our rotation recently.
1. Lay You Down (Daryl Singletary Version)
2. Cadillac Tears Kevin Denney
3. You Ain't Just Whistling Dixie Bellamy Bro
4. Ten Rounds Tracy Byrd
I like them all except the Tracy Byrd tune which I consider ignorant. My favorite is the Bellamy Brothers tune, though Cadillac Tears is fun to play.
What have you all added?

Steve,
If you think Ten Rounds is ignorant how about "She Thinks My Tractor is Sexy"? To me that title says exactly what's happend to country music in the last ten years. We haven't added any new songs. We haven't found any that are country enough! There's enough old tunes to play that are more into the vain of what we like and the crowd we play for. This bunch will dance to a steel instrumental whether it's a slow ballad or a shuffle. My kind of crowd!

We play mostly original material but recently added It's Alright To Be a Redneck (Alan Jackson), Where the Sidewalk Ends (George Strait), and Man of Me (Gary Allen). I like the George Strait tune and the others don't offend me...I like the line in Redneck "It's alright to have a girl named Thelma Lou, who don't mind a little kiss when you got a little chew". Now that's poetry.

Well they added The Fishin' song to the lineup, but the bad news is I play the Tele' not the Steel . They also add as many up tempo tunes as they can fit in the space of 60 minutes. I like the guys in the band pretty good but they would rather me play the Tele' and rock out and sing a few rather than the tunes that demand the sweet Steel. I need to have a sit down with the guys and explain the facts the way I see it ...

The band that I'm gigging regularly with have recently added "The Race is On" to the set. Now this is strange they are not a country band .But the wierd thing is the guitar player knew it as a Dave Edmunds song and the singer knew it as a Sawyer Brown song. Only the drummer knew about George Jones!!!! And this is Texas dammit!!!!
The other song they have recently added is "Family Tradition" A really strange choice for a cover song because of it's real autobiographical nature.
The rest of the songs are originals...thank goodness!
By the way Steve I'm using your old Mullen again at the moment the Emmons has gone all stiff on me.
[This message was edited by Steve England on 25 September 2002 at 05:57 PM.]

For me, the question is more like: "What have they been talking about adding for months now...?" Something different for a change and some of my favorite steel tunes:
Panama Red - NRPS
Almost To Tulsa - Texas Troubadours
Wacky Walk - Joe Goldmark
You And I And The July Moon - Brooklyn Cowboys
Now if they don´t actually start on those soon but come up with more of that NCS stuff again instead, I´ll get seriously p#$$ed off!

As you well know, we haven't added any "NEW" songs in years. We've added a bunch of old traditional country. If anything is newer than 20 years ago, I really don't care for most of the stuff that is being played on todays COUNTRY RADIO. But again, you know me very well and know where I'm comming from.

Well I played the "STEEL" card and commented to the band leader last week that I didn't need to rehearse Route 66 anymore at rehearsals, I think after 35 years I've got that one down. I told them that new tunes were in order ..and low and behold , 3 new tunes last night where I play steel on all three.
-I just Want to Dance with you
-1 Round of whatever that Tequila is..
-Write this down
Now if we ( the band ) can just all play them at the same time in the same key...
there's hope

Now that summer's over, Open Hearts is starting to rehearse some new tunes for the next season. John Reese is prolific as ever - our biggest problem is deciding which of his new tunes to work up. Also, Nancy has written a wonder country-rock tune with a groove that reminds me of The Allman Brothers "Blue Sky", and I've written two new ones and collaborated with John on a third one.
It will be good to have some new material. We've nailed the old set lists perfectly a number of times this past summer. New songs add tension, and keep the crowds coming back for more.

Our band has no focus nor taste. Last nite we worked on:
Locomotive Breath-Jethro Tull
Valerie-Richard Thompson
Carmalita-Dwight Yokum (?)
White Rose-Fred Eaglesmith
Hit Me Baby One More Time-Britney Spears
Dead Flowers-Rolling Stones
Only our closest friends ever show up at one of our infrequent gigs.
Regards, Gord

Here's a few we added:
"Laredo"
"I'm a work in progress"
"Burnin' the roadhouse down"
"Swingin' Doors"
(Yes! a little Merle does the body good)
I Have to say that we added the fishin' song a few weeks ago and we get a kick out of playing it everytime. I like the steel exit!
Too cool!
