Started with a pair of mocassins. Too soft for a narrow-footed person like me. Switched to a pair of Florsheim dress shoes (mistake). Switched to cowboy boots but the long pointed toes got in the way of the pedal rods. Changed to lace-up ropers which were OK but lacked flexibility in the ankle area. Tried a pair of military oxfords for about a year but quit using 'em because I couldn't feel the pedals. Switched to a pair of athletic shoes, liked them pretty well. Then last April I bought a pair of "Streetcars" shoes with soft leather uppers and soft rubber soles. They are about the most ideal shoes I have found so far for playing pedal steel guitar. I have heard that the old Hushpuppies 2 or 3-eyelet oxfords were real good, but TRY and find a pair. The more mature players musta bought up the entire remaining supply. Maybe I ought to check with Al Marcus, eh?
All right, I checked with Al Marcus and he told me that a pair of chest waders (any brand) would probably do just fine for the way I play.
Back in 1975 I saw Lloyd Green playing. He was wearing a pair of slip-on PLATFORM shoes with about a 2 1/2" heel. No way he could feel his pedals with those babies. He played awesome as usual. Betcha he could play in a pair of Mickey Mouse boots and sound good. Maybe it ain't the footwear after all.

Ghillie Brogues and full Highland Dress. That causes quite a stir in some of these TX dance Halls!!
I can't imagine wearing anything but boots or something leather soled. But boots have worked the best for me. I've got my favorites, but it doesn't matter as much to me as it used to.
[This message was edited by Bill C.
