A way to gain website space
My local phone service is now provided by "Embarq". They use "Earthlink" as their ISP. They allot 10mb of free webspace. My website has been in use there for some time now.
Embarq now offers a 25gb file vault which is free to me as a customer.
I think I want to re-design my website by uploading all my image files and audio files to the 25gb vault and putting the links to these files on my website. This would save a lot of space on my website, where I now have the files stored.
Can anyone tell me why I should not do this? It seems, to me, to be the thing to do.

John, if I understand what you're saying, you want to host your site on one server and put your image and audio files on another server. No problem, it's done all the time.

You are just balancing the load on the servers.

Thanks, Cal and Wiz.
I guess I'll get busy moving files and creating links. Now I can have 25gb of webspace for free.
If I could only get Google to recognize my listings, I would be in business. It seems like they don't bother with poor folks like me. I have listed with Google several times, to no avail.

Google is not likely to index websites with paths like that. It is not hosted on commercial web space, but is a sub-folder of a sub-domain on Earthlink.net, which is an ISP. You could submit your link until the sky falls and probably not see Googlebot visit your website once. Do you even have access to your raw access logs? I doubt it.
You may want to consider getting some real webspace on a commercial hosting provider. Prices start around $4 to $5 A month for smaller websites, some with limited scripting, but for around $7 to $10 a month you can get everything you need to launch a real website, with tons of disk space and data transfer allowances, plus scriping capabilities that will make your eyes blurry. Read about these things on the page linked to above.

Jack Stoner steered me to "Blue Host" which looks pretty good to me. When I get some time, I'll considered using them as a host and get my own domain ID. They even have a free shopping cart and many other great options. The price is very reasonable.
Thanks again, guys, for all the good help. I really appreciate it............ JD

I have an entire webpage describing the features and pricing at bluehost, on this page: www.wizcrafts.net/bluehost.html
Check it out if you need affordable shared hosting. I have much more information about hosting in general (servers, shared, VPS, dedicated, domain registration, marketing), along with a basic comparison of the features and prices of almost 2 dozen hosting companies, at www.wizcrafts.net/hosting.html
