Verizon dsl package choice

Post by George Redmon »

I just got notice that my little town caught up with the rest of the world, and Verizon dsl line is now available. I was wondering which package to get. They have two.
First package is $14.95 month 768/128kbps
Second $29.99 3Mbps/768kbps Free wireless router
Also free modems on either package. If i got the cheaper service will i be crying later because i should have got the faster package? Also how much faster is the premium service? i don't do alot of downloading other then songs you guys put on the forum here, and i just surf the web. Need some advice here as to what to expect. Who has dsl out there?

George;
I also used to be on dialup and I got low-band DSL for the first couple of years, until higher speeds became available, last November. The only time I notice any difference is when I download huge files, like 20 mb and larger. In my honest opinion if you don't intend to download gigantic files, or don't care if such files take 10 minutes instead of 5 minutes, I would go with the lower priced package. The jump from dialup is incredible.

Also, the upload speed is much higher in that high speed package. It will only matter when you are uploading files from your computer to a web server, or hosting them on your own. If you are not interested in uploading files, or in having your own website, there is nothing to be gained by having the higher upload speeds. At 128 kbps you are getting about 5 times the upload speed you had on dialup.

However, if you can afford the higher monthly rate, you have noting to lose and everything to gain with the high speed package. This will be especially true if you or someone in your family decides to get into downloading huge files on a routine basis.
