I have inadvertantly made some change which now won't let me access any messenger services or the steel chatroom. Other internet services seem ok. I have also in the process lost any useful restore points (DUH)! Messenger's self diagnostic is pointing to a "port" problem. Messenger's log reports "unable to ping PPT." Error is 80048820. The chatroom posts a dialogue box with the message "connecting to server."
I have deleted and reloaded both messenger and the chat room software and I've disabled firewalls.
I've been to the Microsoft messenger help pages and followed their suggestions to no avail. I've also searched the Microsoft knowledge base but found nothing that helps.
Windows XP. Cable broadband internet.
Any help would be appreciated.

Pat, I had sent you an email prior to seeing this post. Try what we talked about in email and see if that works. If not, send me an email and let me know. Sure hope you get it working buddy.
