Laptop Screen Shows Only White

I sold an HP laptop to a friend of mine recently when I upgraded to a faster laptop.

Last week, they brought it back to me to look at because the screen went white. The machine will boot up into Windows (I can hear the sounds) but I never get anything but a white screen.

Any ideas what's going on and how to fix it?

Up to this point, what has been done to isolate the issue?

When it is first powered up, does the HP boot screen appear?

Does the laptop have any external brightness/contrast adjustments? If so, I would look at those.

It's a dead tft screen. I hooked up the comupter to a CRT monitro and it worked fine. HP confirmed my finding through tech support. I can replace the monitor on the laptop for about $130 via eBay.
