This works for XP-Pro, let us know if it works for XP-Home:
Right click on folder>Properties>Customize
From there you can assign a picture to the folder, or select a new icon.
If you choose to select a picture, you will only see it if you have VIEW set to THUMBNAILS.
If you choose ICONS there are premade ones, or you can make your own with PAINT or similar drawing programs. There are even Icon Maker programs.
