Kodak Digital Camera Photo Transfer Problem
Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated. I've tried to transer photos from my recently acquired Kodak Easyshare Z7590 digital camera to the computer without any luck. I downloaded the Kodak EasyShare software and rebooted. I have followed the camera manual instrutions & have connected the USB cable from the camera into the USB ports of my 6 year old HP 4455 computer. Supposedly, all I need to do is turn on the camera and the Easyshare Software will open on my compter and "prompt me through the transfer process." This last step, unfortunately, does not happen. Even when I open the software manually, no prompt can be found. Thanks, steve

I have owned two Kodak cameras and they BOTH had this problem! I HATE them! What I finally ended up doing is buying a "card reader", which is basically a USB cord you plug into your computer at one end, at at the other is a receptacle into which you place the little digital memory card that you take out of your camera. Just stick the card into the device and go to My Computer and the device will show up as an extra storage drive. You can then navigate to the pix on the card, and copy and paste them onto your hard drive. Then erase the card and put it back into your camera.
Good luck. Next time, I won't buy Kodak.

Here's what I do. You may have gone this route already. I open the Kodak program first. I close anything that comes up but the program is still active. With camera off, I plug in the usb cable. When I turn the camera on, I get the screen to select pictures to be transferred. Did you uninstall and reinstall the Kodak software, not sure what you said. Kodak has tech help, probably on line. If not, phone. Can you try the usb port with something else to make sure it's active. Also, try another usb cable. You never know. Good luck, Ron
[This message was edited by Ron Victoria on 22 August 2005 at 07:40 PM.]

Thanks for the responses boys. Ron, I tried the steps you said but was not successful. To clarify, I installed the program and then shut down the computer and opened it again as the EasyShare software instructions said. So, the program has not been reinstalled & I can add pictures from my computer to albums etc. The camera battery is working and there are photos on the camera.
After I open the EasyShare program, plug in the USB cable and turn on the camera, how do I "get the screen to select the picture to be transferred?" Which Shareware command do you use? The cable may be bad, but it is three weeks old, came with the camera, & its the only one I have that fits the camera. Also, I've never used the USB ports before. What might I connect one of them to to see if it is operational?
Jim. you sound about as frustrated as I am with your Kodak. If I can't get the photos to tranfer, I plan to take the camera and computer back to Best Buy where both were purchased, and let them show me how to make it work. I'll use your suggestion as a contingency plan although I'm not happy with the extra steps involved in what should be a simple process.
Thanks for taking the time to respond, lads, I'd enjoy hearing any & all suggestions. steve t

Oh, yeah, and I can't tell you how many times I tried emailing their "Help" staff only to get back completely mindless, "canned" replies that had little or no bearing on the question I asked. They must have some automated "search" function that finds a "keyword" in my email and shoots out what they think is "probably" a relevant response, but without fail, it was utterly irrelevant and proved that no one had bothered to read my emails describing the problem and what steps I had already taken to try to diagnose and fix it. Frustrated? Me?? Heck, yes!

Try Ernest's suggestion. go to my computer and see if a removeable disk shows where there wasn't one before. A lot of the newer digitals work this way. This way you don't have to install any extra software.
