Rhythm box

Many years ago, when I was a teenager and interested in steel guitars, there was a device I think was called a rhythm box. It was similar to a metronome but a person could make a selection on it so it would sound like an acoutic guitar playing rhythm or a set of drums. Since I have revived my interest in steel guitar, and know nothing about what is available, I wonder it their is such a thing as a "rhythm box" on the market today and who provides it. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Boss Jamstation is a modern version.Very versatile and a decent sound quality.
Seems like most folks are using computer programs like Band in a Box (BIAB) for playing at home.

I built a rhythm box from a kit once, back in the '70s. The rhythms were controlled by a network of diodes and switches. I figured out how to modify it to get the "country" rhythms I wanted instead of the "Latin" rhythms is was designed to do.

It sounded pretty bad, though. I never gigged with it or anything - it was just a fun electronics project.
