Jpeg download probs

Before I took my computer back to the shop where I bought it, I was able to right click on an image on a website like "House of Wood" and save a pic as Art or a Bitmap to whatever folder I wanted such as "My pictures" in my documents. They restored my original factory settings to get rid of some probs/virus I had. In so doing, I had to reload many of my programs and bookmarks and now when I attempt to save a pic, the screen indicates I've saved it, but when I go to open it from the folder, my default screen in Windows says preview not available. I've tried right clicking on the Jpeg in the folder with "Open with" options and still can't get it. I've asked the shop what to do and they want me to bring it back in and charge me another $60 minimum to correct it. Before doing so, I'm curious if there's something I can to do to re-enable this function that was no problem in the past. I'm hoping one of you fellow computer whiz forumites might have a suggestion. What Operating System do you have? Windows XP has the support built in. If you have XP, I would say the shop you took it to didn't install it correctly and they should have some guarantee on their work, not change you again because they apparently screwed up. Either that or if you need someone else to look at it, go to a reputable computer repair shop that does guarantee their work.

It goes back to what the shop actually did.

It you do have Windows XP, you can try the option to add/remove features and you may be able to recover. Otherwise it's probably going to take a "Repair" function or even a proper complete reload. Again, it's finding a computer shop that (1) knows what they are really doing and (2) will guarantee their work.

Obviously a shot in the dark, since little info on your system is available, but...

In Explorer (assuming Windows), try opening Tools/Folder Options/File Types and go down the list until you get to JPEG. Delete it.

Find a .jpg file, double click it, and you should get a prompt asking what application you want to use to open the file. Browse to whichever program you want to use, and select it. Then try double-clicking on a .jpg file again and see what happens.

Maybe that will restore the functionality. It won't hurt anything, at any rate.

My system is Windows XP. Thanks for your help. I'll give 'er a try.
