Show us your roof

Google has now made available to the public keyhole satellite imagery. Not all areas are covered as of yet. I suppose eventually everyone's shoe size will also be available online.

There's been similar satellite imagery sites (GlobeXplorer, Terraserver) on line for a few years now. What they don't tell you is that the images they sell may be one to several years old. It's not "real-time" video.

Also, at the supplied resolutions, cars are easily visible, but people are not. I suppose that's to keep you from requesting photos of the nudist camps...er...uhhh..."naturist retreats"! Image

That's sort of misleading. They have made it available as long as you download the limited time trial version of the software.

To me that's a rip off. If they are going to make it available, free to the public, that's one thing, but to only make it available free for a limited time, 7 days, and you must download software is a typical internet gotcha.

As their site notes the pictures may be as new as 2 months or 3 years depending on the area (and my location in Florida isn't even listed).

Go here http://maps.google.com/
Then click on "Satellite" in upper right hand corner.
