Ever had this happen?

This is a new one for me. Tonight, whether I'm here in the Forum or reading email, every time I've clicked on a live link the program freezes up (Outlook or here on the forum the screen freezes and I have to shut down IE). After I shut down the programs I can bring them up again but I don't dare click on any links.

I use McAfee and am up to date...I'm running a virus scan now. Have any of you had this happen or know what's happening? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Just a hunch Leila, but it sounds a lot like what some spyware was doing with my system a while back. You click on a link and the spybot attempts to hijack the URL request and insert advertising instead. It could be something else but in my case once I got rid of the spyware that type of problem disappeared.
Antivirus software often doesn't stop spyware since it isn't actually a virus. You need a properly configured firewall. Magically, now the links work. I didn't have a virus. I think it corrected itself either by my turning off the computer and back on this morning, or getting rid of cookies and temp files did it. Who knows, this is all magic to me.

Thanks for your help. I've got Zone Alarm installed but haven't a clue what its doing. Its just in there somewhere.

Try downloading the free version of "Hitman Pro".Great program that combines Spysweeper AdAware and Spybot all at once.And it stays in sleep.So it kicks of all spyware that try's to enter your pc.

just mark that the discription is in Dutch(because the program is dutch)but somebody has translated it.
