Hi I just tried out this tool and then bought it.
Amazing Slow Downer for OS X http://www.ronimusic.com/

Works very well I was listening to various programs sources and it is clear,

Has an EQ for accentuating bands for listening, can adjust for pitch, as well as slow or speed up tracks.

Has a decent way to make loops, not visual, but works ok.

Is quite listenable, if not something you can release as commercial a CD.
You could do a slow version of a song on CD for practice with out a problem, for woodshedding it works just fine,

The price seems a bit high, initially, but not to far, and compared to the lost time figuring things out it is a bargan.
Made in Sweden by people who must be players too.
There are versions for Windoze and Mac os 8 or 9

I have both programs, for OSX, and yes Audacity can do the same things. The interface and the design of ASD, is for working out auditory phrases on the fly. I use Audacity or Peak(even better) to edit sound files or record and mix tracks. But for slowing and looping, changing pitch, filtering out vocals, ASD is more efficient.
On the highend nerd side with the http://www.macally.com/spec/usb/input_device/keypads.html, I can control ASD pitch, speed, looping, etc and not get up from my guitar.

For OS X you should try TRANSCRIBE http://www.seventhstring.com/

I've been using for over a year and like it a lot.

I also use Audicity for other recording and editing tasks, but for slow down and practice I use TRANSCRIBE.

Ok I got it and it is ok,
but I had Peak, Digital Performer and Protools,
so it comes under the catagory of cute, but redundant for me.
After quite a bit of time I DID find the song speed controls,
and after iitrenders the file, it will play back.

Also I found no looping function short of pasting the same section mulktiple times. Not at all good for learning a fast steel lick...

Seems like a reasonable audio editing unit, but not for learning parts where TAB is not an option

What I really loved about Amazing Slow Downer was the totally real time control of speed and the a minimum of artifacts in the sound.

I just slid the slider and picked the speed I liked, in real time,
Want it a bit faster. no problem slide it.

Also the pitch could be controled the same way, great for fixing tracks from a cassette.

You can also output the file in several formats at the speed and pitch you choose.

You decide by minutes, seconds and frames where you want to loop it, you can punch in a new start point on the fly in either window and it just goes there immediately at what ever speed your using it at.

It doesn't have a screen display of the wave form, but that's the only thing I don't like. And is not really necessary, it just would be nice.

So I don't regret one bit the $44 I paid for ASD,
it really does what I want it to.

So far nothing else has done this as well.
