Configuring 2 hard drives w/cd burner?

Post by Wayne Carver »

Hello, if I add a second IDE hard drive to my system should i put it on the middle connection of the existing drive's ribbon cable or on the cd burner's ribbon cable? If on the burners cable does it matter if it's on the end or middle?
Thanks!

The position of the drive on the cable only matters if the drives are jumpered for "Cable Select". Assuming they are, and you might need to boot from your burner at some point, I'd move the burner to the middle position on channel one (where your original hard drive is now), and put the new hard drive on the end of channel two (where your burner is now).

If you don't care about booting from your burner, move it to the middle position of channel two and put the hard drive at the end of the cable.
