Jim,
Any luck? I have not had a problem since the 15th. What ever it was seemed to vanish.At least on my end. Hope all is well on yours too!

Larry, No luck. I had my tech over yesterday and he ran a few tests, but the SBC service was having ups and downs in Houston, so he said he would come back later. I tried today and still couldn't get on.

Sonny, I did that too for the last five years. Then I switched ISP to SBC Yahoo and life got more complicated. Every other site I go to is quicker and no problems. It's just Steel Guitar Nashville. SBC tech told me I must have a firewall problem; a restricted site from my end??

Jim,

That's a weird problem to have. I doubt that it is your PC. It's most likely a configeration problem either at Bobbe's hosting service or at your service provider. You tech can easily bypass any hardware or software firewalls (that could block an address)that you have. He/she can also start you computer in the safe mode (depending on the OS) with networking to start with the basics and run a quick test. This will bypass all the junk that loads up normally. Is there someone else that is in your area that is using the same ISP? If so can you ask them to try the address on their PC. If it works for them and you still can't get in then it maybe on your system. I wrote a program that can provide some info and I will spend a few minutes to see what they are using on the backend at the hosting service for the OS and web server etc...(just for fun) I will also check out the DNS info and the PTR records on the server. Don't worry about the terms if you don't know them I will explain later if I have reason to.

Bob, Wow, I'm going to have to put you on the payroll! Thanks for the effort. I'm using Windows 98, with MSN Internet Explorer, Google, and Yahoo.
You can tell I'm not a computer wizard, so please ask me easy questions.

Jim,

It seems that the problem is most likely with your ISP. Each ISP uses a DNS server that is used mostly to translate between domain names in mnemonic form such as ford.com and IP addresses such as 136.1.240.21 , and to control Internet email delivery. (computers only understand numbers and not words).The Domain Name System (DNS) is a distributed Internet directory service. Most Internet services rely on DNS for them to work. It's also one
of the reason that one person can find http://www.steelguitar.net/ and a person at a different location cannot. It's one of the reasons for two people in the same area that are on different ISP's and http://www.steelguitar.net/ works for one and not the other. It also the same reason that it worked with your old ISP and not the new one and you are in the same location.

**** Try this test at your own risk and with the help of a professional***

One thing that you could try as a test is to subsutite the address of the DNS server to another DNS server. I *** would not suggest that you try it on your own if you are not good with the tech side of computing, If you call your ISP they should talk you through it. Basically all you have to do is go to the control panel, networking options and find TCP/IP options. Then change the location for the DNS server.
============================================
I don't have a Win98 system to try it but for fun I tried it on Win XP and used the DNS for Tellis = 206.235.86.11 This worked fine.

First, I did a seach through Windows help for DNS. Next I selected" configure TCP/IP settings" and then " Open Network Connections" then selected "Local Area Connection" then " Properties" then " under the General tab I selected " Use the following DNS server address. I then put in the address for Tellis and tested it. More later......time for work Image

It's fixed! I just stumbled onto a fix. I went into control panel, internet options, security, and listed the site as a trusted site. It worked! BTW, it was not listed on the "untrusted" sites before.
