How can I uninstall xp?

Post by Mark Krutke »

I know there are positive and negative things about xp, and I've witnessed both. Is it possible to remove xp after it's installed? How would I do it?
Any help would be appreciated.

If you're wanting to go back to Windows 98 or ME, here is a link to an article to help with that. Probably reading this would help with going back to Win2K also.

Just reformat the hard drive and install what you want.

Use that fabulous file fixing program 'fdisk' and take it from there.

XP works great for me, but what you should watch out for is "Windows Service Pack 2." DO NOT INSTALL THIS UPDATE! It's very buggy and does not jive with a lot of 3rd party software out there. If you do want to install, make sure that all anti-virus and firewall programs are OFF!!

Thanks Herb,

I've helped about 5 people with their pc's, installing/removing programs, 3 of which have xp, and for the most part there have been minimal problems with this OS.

However, one pc which has xp I've been having a terrible time with. It's been recommended to me that I keep current on the updates among other advice, but it's gotten to the point that even after endless troubleshooting from experts on nearly every angle the xp just "ain't gonna" fly on this pc. It's time to clean her out.

Has anybody else had this trouble with xp(slow running with plenty of ram, constant internet disconnection, even w/new modem)?

Thanks.

One doesn't just "uninstall" Windows XP. Microsoft knows where you live and where your children go to school. Do not make them angry...

The Lord knows where Microsoft is...don't make HIM angry. He even knows where Bill Gates is, and where HIS daughter goes to school..

The link that sonbone posted to uninstall xp seems like a way to go, and may be effective.
