Computer HD and MIDI problem

Post by Dan Dowd »

I have had a problem with Cakewalk Pro Audio v 9.0 when syncing it to my Yamaha AW 4416 Recorder, using the recorder as the Master and Cakewalk as the Slave. I used all the latest drivers for my Midiman 2X2 (which has 2 in and 2 out). I am running Windows XP Pro on a new Pent 4 , 3.2 GHZ with the USB Midiman. I can sync the recorder and computer sometimes and then it will not sync (Cakewalk says waiting for 30 frame non drop. If I close Cakewalk and then try to reboot the computer, I get a message that says Cakewalk is not responding and asks to be ended.

I can run the same program on my laptop using XP and Cakewalk with my recorder syncs fine. .

Thinking I had a problem with something on the installation of Cakewalk I tried using my old computer hard drive which worked fine in the old computer. I disconnected the new hard drive and hooked up the old hard drive. The computer would not boot up. So I removed the HD and connected the original HD. It still does not boot. I have been thru the BIOS and it sees the original HD but in the boot up sequence it only shows my slave HD and A drive and one of my DVD drives. I can get the computer to boot if I have the Windows XP disk in the DVD drive. After it boots everything looks like normal.

1st Any ideas on how to get the BIOS to see the C drive on the boot sequence.

2nd Any idea on the Cakewalk sync problem.

regarding item #2...

Although Cakewalk PA9 will work fine with XP (assuming you're using the last update ver. 9.3), Cakewalk won't support it (you may have already found this out). I finally went with XP with a fresh HD and had a problem with CW syncing via midi. In my case, it turned out XP didn't like my older Midiman Bi-Port (serial connection). I picked up a USB Midisport model and CW syncs well with my audio apps (as slave). Note: during installation of the Midiman Midisport, you'll get a message that is it not supported by XP but you get the option to continue anyway.

Another note; I originally tried to simply upgrade from 98SE to XP (home) and had a bunch of problems. I then started with a fresh install on a new HD and it's very stable (for a computer system).

I'd think you would be more likely to get a good answer on the SONAR forum on www.cakewalk.com

Thanks guys for the help. I did get the hard drive back. It seens that when I put in the old hard drive it changes the the drive listing in the boot sequence. However when I went to the drive configuration the drive was listed a drive 5. All I had to do was change the drive info for drive 1 and it then showed up on the boot sequence. So that part is back to normal.
However I still cant sync in with Cakewalk and sometimes have to turn the computer off as it locks up when trying to sync in with my Yamaha AW 4416.
I will try the Cakewalk user group as Gary suggested.
[This message was edited by Dan Dowd on 21 July 2004 at 05:52 AM.]
