BIAB stumbles

Post by Leon Grizzard »

I think there was a post on this a while back but I can't find it. Band in a Box is stumbling or bobbling, like it can't keep up. It sort of stops for an instant and then starts up again. What's up with that?

Leon, I don't know the cause but I've experience the same problem from time to time. I've installed an older version of BIAB and it does the same thing. There's no problems which BIAB on my other computer.

Guys,

Try turning off your instant messenger software, your internet connection, and any other background processes you have running. They all suck up cpu time which can kill BIAB.

Another trick is to start BIAB, then bring up the task manager, and change the priority of the BIAB programs to "Real Time"

I doubt if you have a dual cpu system, but if you do, BiAB does not like it. To get BIAB to run properly, you have to lock it to only one cpu. (Don't know if this applies to ver 12).

Bill, When you say turning off your internet connection, do you mean to do something more than making sure you are logged off? And do you know what the real time option means? Thank you very much for responding. Leon

Leon,

I mean that your internet connection should be broken, so that there is no activity going on. If you have a dial-up, all you have to do is hang up. If you have a cable or dsl modem, then you need to disable it while you are working with BIAB. If you find you still have a problem with BIAB, then this probably wasn't your problem.

You didn't say what version of Winbloze you have so the priority change may be different than on my machine. If you can bring up task manager, and look at processes, you will see all the programs that are actually running on your machine. The cpu column shows how much of your processor is being eaten up by each program.

If you right click on an image name, you will get the option to change a programs priority. Real Time is the highest priority, and insures that no other program can interrupt a real time program.

On my machine, BiAB shows up as BBW.exe in the image list. I have ver 12.

If you go to pgmusic.com, there is a lot of information there as to how to fix your problem. That might be your best place to start.

I looked on pgmusic.com. The search feature is very slow, and I wasn't sure what the right search terms would be. I scanned the past several months postings, and found one dealing with the problem, with only a few replies, but to the effect to turn off all background programs. I realize my wife often walks away from the computer while logged onto the net, so I will watch out for that when I get on, and will try disabling the internet if I need to do more. Thanks for the input.

Leon,

Here is a link to their FAQ which offers advice on "jerky" playback.
