Specific answers will be more likely if you tell what operating system you are using.
There are most likely two BIOS passwords you can set. One is the power-on password, which lets the machine continue with the power-on self-test; the other is the BIOS admin password which allows BIOS access to change BIOS settings, including the power-on password. If you power off your machine when you are away from it, these two should protect you sufficiently.
What is your situation? Would it be that easy for an intruder to open your PC and move the jumper?
