BIAB question

Post by Carter York »

Hey y'all,
Can anyone tell me how to 'mute' any given instrument in a BIAB song for a few measures? So maybe the piano would play on the intro, and then again in the second verse, etc.

Thanks
Carter

The complete answer to your question will require more info than my initial post above.
[This message was edited by Gene Jones on 01 March 2004 at 03:33 PM.]

On the last couple of measures I like to mute everything except the strings. I type in the chord name followed by 3 dots followed by the letter s. That plays the strings only. There are other letters to keep other instruments going but I dont recall them. Experiment with it.

In the measure or Bar you want just one inst, just type the chord with a period after it and then the first letter of the instrument you want to play a C chord. EX C.b will play only the Bass. C.p will play only the piano. To have all the inst play after these measures just tpye a C. If you want the Bass and Drums type C.db or C.sd for Strings and Bass. The help file has all this info for you also.

What I do is Unfold the song:
EDIT, UNFOLD (makes song one big chorus)

For my rhythm tracks where I don't want a lead instrument playing, I simply delete the notation for the number of bars needed.

EDIT, ERASE FROM TO.... a window will appear with Erase Chords and/or Melody.

Remove the ticks on everything except Erase Melody. If you make a mistake, simply use the EDIT, UNDO.

Save the song with a different name to keep the original intact.

If you have problems, email me.

Carter,
If you just want to do it on the fly when BIAB is playing, there is a little circle by the different instruments that you can click on and off to mute or hear that particular instrument.
