Win 2000 upgrade problems!
I just upgraded to Windows 2000 tonite and have several new problems as a result!
1) I have annoying popups that I've never had before! "Sexy Chick" etc. etc. popping up inviting me to various websites, etc. Where the heck is THIS coming from?? All I did was upgrade to Windows 2000!!!
2) My scanner doesn't work anymore, and when I reinstall the driver for Win2000, it still won't recognize the scanner.
3) Every time I go to a web page, like each of the Forum sections, where there is supposed to be a logo or photo, etc., I get an annoying popup box saying that the system could not find some particular DLL file. Well, I sure as heck don't know where the file is!
HALP! What to do??
Thanks in advance,
jc

Jim, I would recommend that you install any operating system on a clean hard drive. Migrating operating systems can be troublesome! If you know how to work in DOS, you can DELTREE your other operating system without deleting program files other than Windows.
Popups, get AdAware 6.0... There are lines of code that get dumped into your computers registry (from the internet). Thats what usually causes pop-ups.

Jim...........
Go to system services (in the control folder) and disable "Messerger" !! This will stop 99% of pop-ups.
This function is turned on by default by W2K for Administrator to use on LAN systems. Hackers and others are aware of this service and use it to spam us. It's mostly an anoniance to folks with cable connections.
Hope this helps.
