Too Many Fonts

Post by Mel Culbreath »

I recently installed Hallmark Card Studio 2 (Sierra Software). Now I get the following message each time I open a spreadsheet with .wks (MSWorks)or .xlr (MSWorks Suite 2002)extensions.

"There are more than 500 fonts in the system. Reduce the number of fonts or the display may be incorrect"

I can open .rtf (WordPad) and .doc (MSWord)files and the message does not appear.

Is there a way to reduce the number of fonts, or will I have to uninstall Card Studio 2 to eliminate this annoyance?

Thanks,

Mel, you can go to your FONT folder and delete a bunch of fonts. There are a bunch that looks the same anyway. They will be sent to the RECYCLE bin so you can restore them anytime you want. Just make sure you dont remove the few that are required, like ARIAL and a few more. Hope this helps.

You may need a font management util. I am not an expert on graphics and fonts (I just use what comes packaged with the OS) but I do know that fonts take up MASSIVE amounts of memory. When you use a management utility like Adobe Type Manager, the app. takes the burden off of the PC.

I think it is a pretty inexpensive application to purchase...maybe try it.

Thanks Gere and Mark for your suggestions.

I went to START>CONTROL PANEL>FONTS and moved about 95% of the fonts in the FONT folder to a new folder I created on my root directory which I named UNUSED FONTS. That way they are still on my PC in case I need them in the future. That cured my problem.

Thanks again.
