Xp & 98 files??

Post by Joe Delaronde »

I installed XP. Done all the necessary things like update, etc.

I always save my data files to CDRW. Now when I try to view the W98 files using XP Explorer, XP says the cd is blank???????? What gives?
Thanks in adavance

Joe,
Did you check to be sure they were copied ok? If so try them on a "98" system,I did an upgrade, well a new system and have had no problems reading 98 copied discs. The only problem was my system crashed before all my data was copied. Does your reader work with other cd,s maybe a driver prob.

Did you format the disk as a data disk that you can write to again later? If so it will only be readable on the CD drive that wrote it (or possibly on another CDR(W).)Been there ...

Joe,
When you installed XP did you wipe your drive for a clean installation. Many problem come around on installing XP over Windows 98/98SE.
Check your computer for CONFLICTS.Windows XP has that option.

Cleaned house, so I reformatted.

"Check your computer for CONFLICTS.Windows XP has that option."

All my files can be opened & read on a Win 98 OS computer. I tried this on my friends 2 computers which have Win98 installed.

On his other computer which has XP, the files cannot be opened or read. It says the cd is blank.?????????????????

Did you format "fat 32" when you loaded XP ?
My computer guru said that may be the problem,an easy to overlook step in the install process....

I have XP,,,FAT 32 and have no problems reading/viewing CD files saved from my "98" system

Joe,
Yes my system is XP pro..formated FAT32,I have no problems reading CDs burned on my old system"98",just today got some info from one of those CDs,only problem was my old system got a virus before I could get everything off. If you know someone local that knows this install procedure, have them do it for you.

Bill
That was a "yes" that I did format "fat 32" when I loaded XP.

I store my files to cd so they were not effected by the virus. Anyway, my buddy can't read the win98 on his XP either???
