I keep getting spam mail. Lots of it!!!!
I block it and more comes. Ad-Aware don't help. What can I do??
I unregister. That don't help.
The thing is, I never registered with any of this garbage.

I get at least 40 a day.

When you "unregister", it tells them "we've got a live one". Don't do that. It just causes more spam.

I've started using the freeware package SpamPal which can be downloaded from www.spampal.org .

This package does not block on content, but, uses a number of dns blocking lists of known spammers/open relays. It does give you the ability to tweak both "white lists" and "black lists" and catches virtually 100% of spam I get.....150 messages so far today

I'm running XP and full blown Outlook. You will have to change your POP3 server ID as it looks for a "localhost", so, you'll need a bit of saavy.

I'm in love with this software though!!

And please don't create 'Forum' mailboxes or add the address of contacts without their permission. I've e-mailed two Forumites for the first time in the past week and I'm getting 'mailbox forwards' from both of them.

I use Yahoo for my email and get very little spam. They seem to have a spam blocker of some sort as well as dividing the mail into a regular place and a place called bulk mail, which I would assume is for spam. I have never gotten hundreds or even tens of spams.

Perhaps my ISP has something to do with it as well, but I could't say.

If I had gotten hundreds of spams I'd have to thump on somebody real often, even if it was a virtual thump.

Find me a pimple face kid who could write a program to spam those people back and give them a cold.

Here's a tip for those that feel they simply must forward emails to all their friends.

Put everyone's address in the Bcc: field. Then you're not exposing everyone's email address to everyone else.

Great tip about the BCC: field. I always use that now. I have 2 examples:

1. I was changing email addresses a LONG time ago and decided to send a mass email to EVERYONE in my address book. This includes very strict/religious family members and goof-ball friends of mine. Of course I added everyone into the TO: column. I find out a couple of days later that some goof ball buddy of mine that I played in a band with many years ago was taking female's email addresses off of my email and sexually harrassing them! These are older relatives of mine that he was sending these pornographic emails to! That made me furious!

2. I am a network administrator at a very large corporation. I had a user who got married, but didn't want to change to her new last name at work because she had been there for so long it was a real hassle to have all of her clients change their records and such. So she said if she ever gets a new job she would change her name. Yes, she gets a new job and sends out a MASSIVE email to hundreds of people (all of which are in the TO: column) letting everyone know that she is leaving this email address and will be going to this other company and that she is taking this new last name. Now, she had a really funny new last name (will not mention it here). In this massive email she sent out, she included VERY important clients/family and FRIENDS! She had some goofball friend decide to hit "REPLY TO ALL" and tell her "Hey nice FU#^ing new last name...haha" She called me almost in tears asking me if there was anything I could do....I told her once it was sent that was it. I told her about the BCC: column and she said she will always use it.

To sum up the 2 stories....please use the BCC: column on mass emails!

I get around 120 spams a day and I have solved the problem by using EmailExpress - its a free download and needs no more than 2 minutes configuration and goodbye spam

Works fine with Outlook Express.

I've had the same experience as Ken regarding Yahoo. They do a pretty good job of blocking spam. A few get through, but for instance, I just checked and I had 4 spams in my inbox, but 39 in my bulk mail box.

As a rule, whenever I sign up for anything online, I use one of my many 'throw-away' addresses, and use my real address for correspondance only.

Mickd, do you have the address where I can download EmailExpress, please? I'm so tired of being told where I can buy Viagra cheaply. Geez, I didn't think I needed it. Has someone bbeen talking? Now I'm not sure and am really worried!!!

My ISP downtown includes a spam and virus filter, he catches all the spam down there . Works real good.
But I get an email from a new person caught in there, but I can have it delivered to my inbox.
I had 500 spams over the last weekend. They keep them for a limited time and then delete them. It sure helps a lot.....al

I have a 7 year old e-mail address, spam city... and just horrible stuff.
Also so many think I am in the USA now and think Freddiemac and house re-mortgaging is logial for me,,, just idiotic.

I wouldn't use Outlook Express on a bet, even on a MAC.... it's a timebomb waiting to wreck world comunications. Merci Microsoft

It's frustrating....before I even begin to open my legitimate e-mails I have to sort through and delete numerous solicitations for Viagra, penis enlargement, porn sites, etc, etc, etc!!! I NEVER open any of those before deleting, and I have "opted out" on all of them....but they keep coming!

My telephone used to be the same but after the prohibitive laws passed to "opt out" of telephone solicitations, they have almost disappeared.

Is it possible to do the same with the internet? www.genejones.com
