Windows Media Player 9

Post by Chip Fossa »

OK.....how do you go about REMOVING this piece of junk? And it is, a real piece of junk.

Nothing works right and I can't find any way to get rid of it.

I've looked in ADD/REMOVE and the WMP9 folder, and can not find anywhere to EXIT this rotten version [at least for me, anyway].

Why do I do these things? You all have warned me here about the risks of upgrading, and once again, I failed to heed.

So please help.

And by the way, it seems that WMP, either the older version or new, will play MIDI files. But the newer WMP9 plays the midi file
OK, but then changes the instrumentation or sound....somewhere in the middle of the playing.....sometimes after 4 or 5 plays.
Hey.......it's acting screwy. There are other issues as well, but I'm keeping this short.

I also have MusicMatch Jukebox on board, but does it play MIDI? I don't think so. Haven't had any luck figuring if it does or doesn't. That's why I'm still 1/2 wrapped with WMP.

So c'mon good buddy's......I really, if nothing else, want to scrap this latest WMP version 9, and at least put back the old one..........unless someone can tell me a better way to play MIDI FILES....then I won't
bother with any WMP.

Thanks Ahead.....Chipper

BTW...This WMP9 was downloaded from Windows Update.
[This message was edited by CHIP FOSSA on 23 February 2003 at 11:13 PM.]

[This message was edited by CHIP FOSSA on 23 February 2003 at 11:14 PM.]

[This message was edited by CHIP FOSSA on 23 February 2003 at 11:16 PM.]

Chip:
Try Winamp. My version plays midi files as well as mp3, wav and a host of others.

A nice cheap, and dirty player for .midi files would be IrfanView, which is an image viewer, but will handle midi files. Download is VERY small as well, and is one of the best image viewers I've used as well.

Thanks Gino,
I used to have Irfanview and some how it got lost along the way. But I do remember using it.

Anyway, I dug out Winamp and have been using it since this post, and it seems to be working OK.

But thanks again fellas for the info.

Hopefully you have a workaround now.
BUT
How many people loaded MP9 and didn't notice that it explicitly states THIS APPLICATION CAN NOT BE UNINSTALLED.

I think it's ridiculous that any sftwe co would make their app uninstallable, BUT, if you were using the same install script I was, you can't say they didn't warn you. BTW, I installed it anyway and think it's much better than the predecessors -- on my system anyhow. FWIW

Larry,
I think I did see that, about uninstallible.
But I was looking around and reading all the other download options, and I must have spaced-out, and when I finally opted for the #9 upgrade, the uninstall didn't cross my mind.
Too bad - 18.6MB wasted.

WMP didn't seem to want to accept any songs I tried to put in it's library.

Winamp's running OK for me.

Thanks Larry,

Chip

I've never liked previous Windows Media players. My mp3's always skipped & studdered. I was using Realplayer it seems to be pretty good. Right now i'm using Winamp for midi's and mp3's and it's doing a good job.

Chip,
In XP,...start/search/for files & folders/clik all files & folders/type in what you are looking for and delete from there or go to where they are listed to delete. You may have to search and delete a couple times to get it all.
Hope this helps, worked for me a few times.

Thanks Bill, but I'm running ME. Winamp, so
far, is holding it's own.
