PC Audio CD Player Recommendations?
I didn't get anywhere with my other post about MS CD Player. What do you guys use to play audio CD's on your computer that doesn't take over your system and does a decent job of recognizing a new CD, downloading the playlist, and adding it to its database?

Jim, on my work computer I use MS Windows Media Player, which came with MS Office. It seems to do a good job of running in the background so I can listen to a CD while using the computer for other stuff. When I stick in a music CD, Media Player opens automatically, shows the playlist and some osilloscope type animated graphics, and starts playing the CD. My older home computer has CD Player I think, and it hasn't worked for a long time and I don't have time to figure out why.
Basically, I hate computers and the monopolists and idiot programmers who give us difficult temperamental hardware and software that's ridiculously vulnerable to hackers and viruses, and then they blame us for being too dumb to use their crappy stuff. We're not dumber than they are, we just don't have time to do their job for them when their stuff doesn't work.
Okay, sorry for the flame. I guess you can see you hit a nerve. I feel for your problem. Good luck.

What version of Windows Media Player are you using? I've stuck with version 6.4 because of problems I've heard about newer versions, however playing CD's isn't listed anywhere in its help.
Are you having any problems with the newer versions? I've heard things about it messing up CD burning programs, etc.

Jim,
I am using Windows Media Player 9. It is the latest version of the application. I have been using it and have had NO problems. I have heard other forum members complain about it, but so far no problems. I use it ALL the time and find it very easy and it plays CD's great. I also download ALL the windows updates and patches. I know there already is a patch available to fix issues with Windows Media Player 9. So if you decide to download it, then go back to microsoft.com and download the patch. I think they may have bundled it together with the application now so that will save you the download again. OK, just my $.02
