1. I have windows 95(don't laugh). Lately when I go to outlook express and connect to service provider, it connects but there is a yellow caution looking icon that appears at the bottom of the screen. I then must go to tools, send and recieve, and type in my password again in order to recieve email. It just started doing this about 2 weeks ago. Do any of you know how to fix this?
2. I bought an optical mouse a month or two ago. I installed the drivers but it said that you had to download explorer 5.0, I think. I did all that only to find out the mouse would not work on windows 95. Now my browser runs tremendously slow. It seems to have started about the time I installed the newer version of explorer. My question is, would the newer version of windows explorer cause and old computer to run slower than it did with the original version of explorer. If so do any of you know what the original version might have been?
Thanks,
Ken

Ken,
1. In Outlook Express, go to the "TOOLS" menu and then scroll down to "ACCOUNTS". It will display another screen with a list of account. Highlight your email account and then select the "PROPERTIES" button on the right side. Then that brings up another screen. The second tab on the top is called, "SERVERS", click on that tab and then you will see the username and Password fields. Retype your password and make sure the checkmark is in the "Remember Password" box. Click "APPLY" and then "OK" and it should fix that password issue.
2. Well, I am surprised that you have not become frustrated with Internet Explorer 4 earlier. A lot of website setup today rely on industry standards that were not available in IE4. Once Microsoft released IE5.0 it updated it's standards. Yeah, I bet IE5 would cause your system to slow down a little bit. It is a big application that processes lots of graphics and other things simultaneously. I would recommend when you surf, only have IE open. Close all other applications.
What kind of CPU do you have? Pentium I? How much RAM?
You may want to consider an upgrade soon. Microsoft has stopped updating patches for Windows 95 and Windows 98 is going to be cut off next year. Computers are getting very cheap lately and you may want to consider making an upgrade. There are also lots of good used computers for sale by Dell and other manufacturers that are really good deals.
