Windows Up Date Question for Mark Ardito
Mark--The OP System I have is Windows 98 4.0 .I have received notice from Microsoft that they recommend downloading an up date called Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 .
Is this a critical update for my particular operating system ? I started to download it and stopped it as it takes about two hours to do and approx. 25 MB of space .
I wonder if it is really necessary to have it installed !!! I mostly use my computer to check e- mail from friends and family and check out this Forum . I do not stay on the internet very long at a time so I wonder if it is worth all the time and space to up date to the above 6 Service Pack 1 ?
Thanks for your advise !

John,
If you are on a dial-up connection, then I would say "NO" don't update your internet explorer, but if you are on a broadband connection, than I do recommend. It is a large download and does not do much, but I always like to "patch" up my browser with the latest updates if possible. I understand your frustration with the dial-up connection and the large download.

You may want to drop by your local friendly independent computer store and ask one of the technicians if they have IE6 SP1 that they can burn to a CD for you.
The folks I have been doing business with since '89 do that for some of their regular customers as they already have those patches downloaded for their own use.
Just a thought.
