virus question

Post by Joe Delaronde »

There is a file in my Windows\System folder named jdbgmgr.exe. It has a teddy bear infront of it. I was informed that it was a timed virus which sits dormant for 14 days, then raises havock with the hard drive.

I was informed to remove it. Did that, but I left it in the waste basket for now. Suddenly I remembered, I think, going through this this before. Sounds familiar.

Is this really a virus ???? or a virus generated message to get me to do the dirty work??? And is this file needed by Windows to operate properly.

Thanks

I'll answer my own question.
Joe, this is a hoax.

Jdbgmgr.exe file hoax
Reported on: April 12, 2002

Symantec Security Response encourages you to ignore any messages regarding this hoax. It is harmless and is intended only to cause unwarranted concern.

Type: Hoax

This is a hoax that, like the SULFNBK.EXE Warning hoax, tries to persuade you to
delete a legitimate Windows file from your computer. The file that the hoax refers to, Jdbgmgr.exe, is a Java Debugger Manager. It is a Microsoft file that is installed when you install Windows.

Hope this helps.
Joe
