New Peavey Bandits

Post by Bob Martin »

Is anyone using the new Transfex Peavey Bandit's? I've heard a lot of good stuff about them and even seen a steeler using 2 of them a few weeks ago. I wonder how powerful/loud they are. 80 watts doesn't seem like a lot of power but now days they sure get a lot of volume out of lower wattage amps. thanks

Bob, I had one along with the matching extension cab and it was a great amp for standard guitar. But, I couldn't get a good tone on the steel with it. BTW, when you use the extension, the wattage kicks up to 100. It has butt kickin power for a 6-string.

Hey Jim, thanks I would probably use them on guitar but of course I'd try them out on steel. At this point I'm learning steel or at least I will be as soon as I find a steel.

I may go to Sam Ash music and try one out. I'd probably use 2 of them in stereo. I like the idea of them not weighing 75 pounds. I think Peavey states they weigh around 43 pounds.

Bob,
I have one I use with standard guitar and keep it at church. Last Sunday I didn't feel like draging my Nashville 400 so I used the Bandit...NOT a good choice! It flat out does not handle a steel well. If you want a light weight steel amp, go for a Nashville 112...they're hard to beat for sound and $$$$$.

The Nashville 112 is also rated to produce 80 watts into a 4 ohm speaker load, and this steel amp sounds great for steel. I recommend the Nashville 112 instead of the Bandit. Both have their own sound characteristics.

I like the N112 for guitar too, especially for a jazz style sound.

Yes, it is a very clean sounding amplifier for jazz guitar.

Well gang, thanks for the input it looks like I'll go another route then. I need good clean powerful amp as light as I can get it. I'll check out some of the other SS amps on Peavey's site.
