Dennis.
This is Important.
If you are trying to rebasket an OLD Magnet, like 79-early 80s, They will NOT fit.
The slot is SMALLER in the magnet in the OLD magnets.
The cones/windings are TOO THICK for the slots in the old magnets.
It took me a long time, and a couple failed attempts at rebasketting by 79 Session 500 BW15 and finally Peavey admitting there was a difference to get a handle on this. I never did get the Specifications for the width of the different slots or the exact date they changed.
Hope I saved you a little trouble.
I ended up with a basket sitting on my bench that is too wide and I'll get a new magnet for it when I get time.

This may or may not be relevant but I have seen a number of cases where the thin foam filter in the magnet vent rots, crumbles and ends up in the magnetic gap. The heat generated by the voice coil melts this debris and the voice coil begins to drag. I have successfully cleaned the gap with acetone and restored the speaker to normal operation. Usually, the voice coil will have a tarry, black substance stuck to it and will require cleaning as well. So, the baskets may be ok and the magnet may need cleaning.

David speaks the truth. Every time you replace a BW basket, CLEAN THE MAGNET GAP!! If you don't, you risk damaging that new voice coil.
Have an experienced tech do it for you. I did it for free when anyone bought a new basket.
I used to have guys come in after buying a new basket from somewhere else, claiming it was defective. Then I'd asked if they cleaned the gap...if I saw that "deer in the headlights" look, I knew they hadn't.

Thanks for all the replies. I have replaced several of these baskets over the years with no problems. I ALWAYS clean the gap as per the instructions. But lately that hasn't helped. Could be the gap size as stated. Seems to fit ok but a little can make a lot of difference.
Tim,
Come by and see us when you get down here !!

Well I cleaned my slot the first time, and if I'd cleaned it any more it'd have to have been metal.
I can find the thread wherein Mike Brown "admitted" that the old magnets have a smaller slot that doesn't fit the new baskets, but I'm off to a gig. I'm sure it;s searchable.
Caused me quite a headache. Mike had Peavey spring for the first basket that got ruined.
My Session 500 was a 79 model.
Now it's got a JBLK130 in it until I get around to it.
