Distortion in Webb 6-14E (with K 130-4) is driving me batty.
I've changed the EQ In/Out toggle.
...seems now it might be the 3 position selector switch. Is this a common item from the electronics store? If it's not this switch, where do I go next?
The speaker cone "looks" OK to me. Is it common for the voice coil to short in this speaker?
Playing in constant distortion mode? ...not an option.
The voice coil wouldn't be shorted, but if it
got overheated, it could be rubbing slightly
causing the distortion. Is it at all
volume levels or only when you crank it up?
Jump over to another speaker temporarily. At
least that will narrow things down a little.
I know the 3 position switch can get "dirty"
but it doesn't usually cause distortion. That
can be sprayed out with cleaner.
Output transistors either work or they don't.
If they go bad, they usually just short out
and the amp will keep blowing fuses as soon as
it's turned on.
Get a can of good tuner cleaner, take the four screws out of the front control panel, Drop panel down and clean all your pots and switches. I had a case where a dirty pot was causing distortion. It almost drove me crazy. A simple cleaning did the job. Be careful with the panel, hold it so that there is not too much tension on all the wire that attach to the boards. The pots and switches can be cleaned and the panel reassembled in just a few minutes.
