Got New Podxt Pro. Updating?

Post by Eric West »

Well I had time to plug in the Firewire/Usb, it shows that it's shipped with the 2.02, and the 1.12 USB software, it's got the 1x15 Speaker model and the Later firmware screen view.

I did the Monkey thing, and it says that the update shown to be needed is not available.

Hm..

Just enough time to get a nap after loading some playable models for the gig tonite, and head out. I'll plug in the XLR outs to the PA and give her a spin.

I got the extended 2 yr at GC so I've got two yers to trash it before II find a suitable 2 slot SKB type case. For now it's a couple pieces of weatherstriping around the perimiter to miss the amp handle and there it will sit.

Can't wait. Looks like it's a lot easier to boost to easy recording levels on my PIV puter. We'll see. The band also got a new Sony Minidisc with .wav software, so we'll see how that goes.

Any input with the "Updating Process" and why the called for updates aren't available?

Got it. I needed the newest Monkey, and grabbed 2.14.

More after the first gig.

Eric, make sure it's not a guitar cord or where the POD XT power transformer is located. I had a problem, one time, with my POD XT and hum and it turned out I had the guitar cable, going to the guitar amp, laying on top of the POD XT's power transformer and it was inducing hum into the cable. We tried several known good cables (and cable brands) and it didn't make any difference. Once I moved the guitar cable away from the POD XT's power supply there was no more hum.

Nope. And I appreciate it. The buzz happens when the line into the amp goes into the Pod Pro. There is no power transformer, it goes up appreciably when turned on. At the gig there were rheostats, at home there are none. I didn't put the tuner or the Hilton transformers in while I checked it at home.

Noise with the Pod Pro. None with my old xt.
Over and over again..

It was one that I got a 10% discount on for being a "floor model". Nonsense. SOmebody else returned it before. It had a apres shipping firmware version on it, like some rocket scientist tried to eliminate the problem and send it out the door again.

My Pod xt actually CUTS "line noise" when I plug it in. It doesn't have a 'ground'. I even reversed the P Pro "ground", "lifted" it.

Probably what happened is somebody dropped it or apilled something in it in the store.

I'm not messing with it. I am perfectly happy with the Pod xt I have.

Off to GC..

Gotta hand it to the crew at BEaverton GC. They let me in before the public at 11, credited my account, and I offered to pay for the three sets of strings they threw in with the original purchase.

In addition, they credited the two yr extended service plan.

I bought a "51" CII Squier "strat" for 112$ on my way out. They're great guitars and on sale after the seasonal overstock.

Great people. ASk for Joey Lomello or Jarred.

It was probably a unit that fell on the floor or had something spilled into the open vent grill in the top of the Podxt Pro (Another feature I didn't like), rack mount or not..

Like I said, it even happened when the unit was turned off, and with the grounds switched or removed, and in the controlled environment of my dead solid grounded non rheostat or FloTube War Room.

I notice they're not picturing the Pro in Musician's Friend.

I like the Pod xt "kidney bean" and won't be swapping it anytime soon.

I did keep the FB2V four bank two switch switch so I can move the unit behind an amp.

So it ends.

Hmm. I was searching for negative feedback and didn't see any.

I think the Pod xt techno is hard to beat, and the Pro had some good additional features, but it's not my choice for gigging.

I'll be getting another one if mine fails, but so far, it has only had one "sticky" button in two years worth of nearly every weekend gigs, I've done "line out" ampless recording with it in CD projects, and it makes NO noise into my amp compared to most other effects I've tried over the years.

I certainly didn't see 400 bucks of improvements over the Pod xt.

Good folks at our local GC though.

Steve, I think I'm rightly surprised at the latest quality I've found under 2 bills WRT Squiers. I couldn't walk by that "'51 strat" for a hundred twelve bucks. A little buffing the corners of the frets, and it plays as good as some thousand dollar guitars I've tried, or better.

Ciao.
