Steel King Owners

Post by Ted Nesbitt »

I recently bought a new Fender Steel-King.It came with cover, and manual, but no castors.
Are they extra? or do they come with the amp for USA buyers? Look forward to your comments..........Ted Nesbitt

Your casters may be stowed inside a manilla envelope stapled inside the back of your amp. The foot switch is back there too.
[This message was edited by Gary Lee Gimble on 28 May 2005 at 03:18 PM.]

Ted, that hardly seems fair - just because a guy lives in Ireland he doesn't get casters . .
What kind of deal is that?

I bought 2 FSKs, and they both came with casters. These amps need to have the casters, because they are not all that easy to carry, and because if you take the rear casters out the amp tilts back perfectly. Everybody who buys an FSK should get them.

Sam Marshall, are you reading this?

Mine arrived w/out a cover so I called Fender and they had one sent out to me forthwith. I'm sure a phone call or e-mail to Fender will quickly solve your issue as well.

USA models have casters, those shipped to Iceland and Scandinavia have runners, work better on ice and snow.
Ireland? Should have the steering wheel on the other side.
Great amp! No matter, wheels or not.

I did not know they came with casters. I looked in the orginal box and found them.
I wonder how many folks have thrown them away or got one from a music store that unboxed the amp and did not know they were included? The are not in the back of the amp with the foot switch. They are wrapped in brown packing material. I thought it was just a filler or pading.

Hi Ted,

I am sorry to inform you that the European version of the Steel-King does not come with casters. In essence, the reason is the difference in the way safety agencies evaluate amplifiers between the US & the EU. During safety evaluation tests, a product is subjected to tipping tests with forces applied at various points. The EU test is more difficult and casters cannot be exported with the amp.

There is also another difference that you should notice (Steel-King trivia). There is a vent on the top and in the back over the heatsink on the export Steel-Kings.

Best Regards,

Sam

Sam, Thanks for getting back to me. I wonder if the European taxpayers are aware that some of their hard earned money goes to pay Blockheads in Brussels for doing a "Tip Test" on a Fender Amp. I know that The Fender Co. have no control over this directive, and have to abide by the rules and regulations, but if I had to do the "Tip Test", I would tip the "Tip Testers" into the nearest river.
Thanks again Sam.........Ted Nesbitt
