Pre Gain And Post Gain On Peavey Amps

Post by Paul King »

This may have been covered in the past but I am wondering which way is the proper way to set these controls. Does the Post Gain need to be set at a higher level than the Pre Gain or vice versa? I know there were some amps if you ran the Pre Gain wide open and the Post Gain at the lowest setting you could get distortion. I always run the Post Gain at a higher level that the Pre Gain. Just looking for the proper way if there is such a proper way to set the controls.

Paul,
I was always told to also run my Post Gain higher than the Pre-Gain to avoid distortion.
I run my Nashville 400s on Pre-Gain of 5 and the Post Gains on 10.
