Sound question???

Post by Pat Jenkins »

I play an LDG Sho-Bud, through a tubefex processor into a Nashville 400. The last couple of weekends my sound has suddenly gotten spongy(the best way I can describe it). The lower strings have a fuzzy sound while the higher strings are almost shrill. I play a tele straight into the amp, and it sounds fine, so, I don't think it is the amp. Any suggestions?

Try plugging your steel straight into the amp, bypassing the pedal. If that cleans up the sound, the pedal is the problem. If it is the pedal, try cleaning the input and output jacks on the pedal with some contact cleaner (available in a spray can at Radio Shack). Spray some cleaner on a clean Q-Tip and use it clean the input jacks. Also try cleaning the input jacks on your guitar and effects processer. Could be a problem in the effects unit... Hope this helps. Larry J.
[This message was edited by Larry Jamieson on 18 May 2004 at 08:31 PM.]

Sonny and Larry, thanks for the information. I will give them both a look. I will have some time this evening to see what I can do. I am off for the whole weekend, so it gives me a couple of days to experiment around with it. I really do appreciate your help.

Same problem with Tubefex patches that bypass the tube? In other words, could it be time for a new tube? Assuming it's an 12AX7, you can put a good new tube in for 8 bucks (JJ Teslas being one recommendation).
