Open up a Telecaster guitar at the control plate and look at the volume pot, If one of the termininals is soldered to the body of the pot , Unsolder it and make it ungrounded, especially if it is a 250K volume pot. This will stop the pot from loading down the pickups and perk your tone right up, The down side is you won't have very much control of the volume, but I run mine full on all the time anyway. Try it, I think you will like it.

What this does is makes the Volume Pot a 250k series (or inline) resistance.

When the pot is at max, the series resistance is at 0 ohms.

When the pot is at minimum there is 250k ohms of resistance in series with the input of the amplifier. This may or may not bring the guitar's ouptut to zero.

Many players have done similar things to achieve the equivalent of no volume pot at all. Many do prefer eliminating Volume AND Tone pots!

It will increase the output of your guitar, I did my G&L ASAT Special this morning with the guitar plugged into the amp and lifted this ground connection and the output increased noticeably. The tone is fuller and has more bite. It will bring the Volume down by turning the volume control to minimum, It may not be enough range to suit some players, but The improved tone is enough for me. Throw away that 250k pot, and put a 500k in there! That will get rid of that "loading" effect. They (most manufacturers) use the 250k pot because it makes it easier for the "pinky" (volume technique) players, and they do lose a little output because of it.
