I think I have gotten my amp settings all out of wack. I have a session 400 and I'm playing a short key head emmons legrand.
I'm trying to get that trebelish-reverbish sound, kinda like Tom Brumley's steel breaks with Buck Owens. I know I'll never get that sound, but can some of you guys tell me what your session 400(if that's what you have)is set on?
presence, treble, middle, bass, reverb etc

Let's try to verbalize what we think we hear Tom doing. His sound was hard, lots of top end, little low end and not a lot of reverb (on record). If you put your amp on the floor, crank the precence and high's cut back on the bass and the midrange add some amp reverb you will be closer. Turn up the stereo and play along.
Soon you will realize that the ZB had a sound all of it's own and you can not get there with your Emmons. The same with the twin, you can not get there with your NV400.
Having said that, find something you like and be you.

(I have a lot of room to talk!!!) This comes from years of searching for IT.
Since Tom used a Twin, you can start by making the Session's midrange do the Twin "dip". Put your "mid" control at around 9:00 and your "shift" at around 10:00. Treble and presence to taste. Bass at around 1:00. That will sort of resemble the Twin's voicing. I read somewhere that Tom said when he recorded "Together Again" that he had a full sounding tone, but that when it got mixed, the engineer took out all the lows and really thinned it out to fit in the mix.
I know I'll never get that sound, but can some of you guys tell me what your session 400(if that's what you have)is set on?
